Many CrossFits around the United States are doing workouts to honour their fallen soldiers with today being Memorial Day. The most famous “Hero” WOD is “Murph”. I think it is super important to honour our veterans and fallen soldiers just as much as they do in the States. Hero workouts will become a regular event at CFK. Freedom is not something to take for granted and I feel the need to constantly remind myself of that. This workout is an absolute bruiser and it honours the man as much as a CrossFit workout can. As for tomorrow we will not be doing “Murph” as we did a deadly pullup workout today. Come this “Freaky Friday” get ready for a rough ride.
Here is an excerpt from a blog I found about Michael Murphy “Murph”. Click on it to read the full story.
“On June 28, 2005, deep behind enemy lines east of Asadabad in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan, a very committed four-man Navy SEAL team was conducting a reconnaissance mission at the unforgiving altitude of approximately 10,000 feet. The SEALs, Lt. Michael Murphy, Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class (SEAL) Danny Dietz, Sonar Technician 2nd Class (SEAL) Matthew Axelson and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marcus Luttrell had a vital task. The four SEALs were scouting Ahmad Shah – a terrorist in his mid-30s who grew up in the adjacent mountains just to the south”.
